RIVERSIDE ? Kalona may send a clerk to Riverside to cover that town?s city hall once Riverside?s full-time city clerk leaves. The Riverside City Council held a special meeting Saturday morning to discuss how to staff city hall after City Clerk Missy Carter steps down Friday.
Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh attended the meeting to talk about what his town can offer Riverside. He and the Riverside council discussed the possibility of a Kalona city employee operating Riverside?s city hall in the afternoons for three to three and a half hours. Carter said she would continue to do the city?s payroll and she would continue to attend the city council meetings until a full-time clerk is hired.
The Riverside City Council will have a special meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to iron out the details with Kalona. Schlabaugh said nothing was finalized at the meeting Saturday because the proposal must be approved by the Kalona City Council, too. Carter announced her resignation during a city council meeting July 2. Deputy City Clerk Teresa Sladek announced her resignation the same day. Sladek?s last day at work was Friday, July 6. Neither of them offered to comment on why they resigned. At that same July 2 meeting, the council voted to advertise for a city administrator and a deputy city clerk to replace Carter and Sladek.
