KALONA — Apple fritters, historical showcases and family fun will return to Kalona in droves this Friday and Saturday as the town celebrates its 51st annual Fall Festival at the historical village.
Kalona Historical Society Managing Director Nancy Roth said she was excited.
“I’m going to knock on wood, the weather looks like it’s going to be great,” she said. “I’m just excited that the weather’s looking clean, and I think everything will pull together great.”
Among the highlights this year is a new exhibit on the grounds which depicts nearly actual-size replicas of community buildings from the early 20th century in the Wahl Museum. Roth said the attraction was sure to be a center of attention during the two-day event.
“It’s not really Fall Festival related, but it’s really a big deal,” she said. “Because all the visitors that are coming are going to get the opportunity to see the building for the first time.”
Roth said the festival would have a slightly higher admittance price this year. An entry wristband for adults will cost $8, or $3 for ages 5-12, but remain free for those younger than four years.
“Everything's higher for us to too, to do and maintain and host,” she said. “When you compare to what everyone else was doing, we were pretty low.”
