The Kalona Volunteer Fire Department said it was thankful after its most successful pancake breakfast on record last weekend, where thousands of community members turned out despite a dreary weather forecast.
Volunteers served a new record of 3,181 people, cooking over 1,500 pounds of sausage, cracking over 8,000 eggs and dishing up 12,960 pancakes.
“We are very humbled by the showing of support for your local fire department, thank you,” a post on the group’s Facebook page said.
Free will donations from the event are directed toward the purchase of a new pumper/tanker, according to the department.
