KALONA — An annual event that started as a bid for social interaction during the pandemic continued into its third year Saturday afternoon. Mayor Mark Robe said he was happy to keep the “Mayor’s Classic Car Cruise” rolling.
“It’s something we just kind of kept going, it worked pretty well the first time,” he said. “I actually don’t have a classic car at all, I just thought it would be a good way to get the residents out of the house during COVID and give them something to do.”
Kalona Chamber of Commerce Director Tonia Poole said the cruise and following car show remained a good way to get people out of the house.
“The nursing home, they go up near there and it’s neat for the residents to be able to watch that,” she said. “It really engages kids and people of all ages, which is kind of neat. It’s something the home can enjoy.”
