The city of Kalona will host a pop-up food pantry on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the city's public works shop at 711 A Ave.
The city did several similar pop-up pantries in the spring.
'It is open to all who are in need in the Kalona area,” Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said.
Schlabaugh said that the city will have 200 boxes of food to distribute to needy families.
'HACAP (Hawkeye Area Community Action Program) is our primary partner,” he said. 'They will deliver 9,500 pounds of food delivered to us on Tuesday.”
He added that the city is getting food from JW's Foods and other vendors.
'Farmers Hen House north of Kalona has donated 210 dozen eggs,” Schlabaugh said.
He added that some private individuals have contacted the city about making donations.
'We ask that anyone wanting to make donations like that bring them to the city shop on Wednesday,” he said.
Anyone needing food can drive up to the shop during the pop-up pantry.
Schlabaugh said that deliveries can be arranged for those unable to come to the city shop.
'We already have some deliveries set up in Kalona, Wellman and Riverside,” he said.
Schlabaugh said he anticipates a strong turnout for the pantry.
'I hope we're busy in the sense that we're helping a lot of people who need it,” he said. 'Hopefully, this will help take a little stress off some people during the holidays.”
