How will your high school experiences help you in the coming years?
Throughout high school, I have had many opportunities academically, athletically, and within the community. These opportunities have helped to shape me into the person I am and have allowed me to learn many valuable lessons. For instance, in athletics, I have had the opportunity to compete at the highest level of competition in the state, at both the state track meet and Drake Relays. Academically, I have been able to not only complete high school courses but also college courses. Finally, throughout all of this, I have had support from my community.
Fondest memory of high school?
My fondest memory of high school has come through athletics. This memory would be state track my sophomore year. At state track, I had the opportunity to compete in three events. The best part of this meet was that my relay team in the sprint medley was able to place in the top eight. This was a really exciting experience for my teammates and me and something that I will never forget because I was not only competing against the best athletes in the state, but I was able to be apart of the best athletes in the state.
Which teachers have had the biggest impact on your education and why?
As a student in the Mount Pleasant School District, I have had some really great teachers over the years, all of which have impacted my education. One teacher in particular that comes to mind is Mrs. Anderson. I had the pleasure of having her as my math teacher for two years. She was always willing to help me in and out of the classroom. She, like many other teachers, has been so helpful to me and I am very appreciative.
Who is your role model and how did they influence you?
When I think of a role model in my life the one person that comes to mind is Lolo Jones. She is someone that I have looked up to in my athletics. She is an extremely successful person and athlete. In seeing her success I was driven to work harder in not just sports, but anything I do in life.
What is special about your high school?
Mount Pleasant Community High School is a great school and has many good attributes. I believe that one of the things that makes it special is the people. This includes all of the students and staff, along with all of the other people involved. I have been able to meet so many great people both peers and adults. In fact, many of these people are ones that I will remain in contact with in the future because they are just good people and are always willing to help.
If you could go back to when you were a freshman, what advice would you give yourself?
As a freshman, I was told many times that high school would go by quickly, but the end always seemed so far away. Rather than telling myself, it would go by quickly, I wish I could have told myself to take advantage of more opportunities. There are things that are outside your comfort zone and lots of opportunities in athletics, fine arts, culinary arts, FFA, etc … When given the chance, I think throughout high school kids should take advantage of as many of those opportunities as possible.
