Katya Moeller, a 17-year-old high school senior from Iowa City, will be performing a free violin concert at Washington Public Library Feb. 24 at noon.
As Katya will be auditioning for future studies at several conservatories, this concert will showcase her audition repertoire.
Katya started violin lessons at age 4 with Preucil School of Music in Iowa City. Currently, she studies with Professor Almita Vamos in Chicago and is a member of prestigious Music Institute of Chicago Academy.
Katya has competed in numerous competitions in the U.S. and around the world, often winning first place. More recently, she was First Prize Winner of the World Bach Competition in 2020. Nationally, she earned Open Division Grand Prize Winner at the Walgreens National Concerto Competition (2021) and First Prize in the Musicians Club of Women-Chicago (2021).
She performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, as their featured young guest artist. Katya and her mother Ksenia have performed around the world as the Avita Duo.
Katya is accompanied by her mother, Professor and Chair of Piano Department at the University of Iowa, Ksenia Nosikova. Ksenia has performed all over the world in such places as Shanghai, China, Hong Kong, England, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. She has also performed in over 170 American universities’ guest artist series. She has recorded numerous CD’s.
“We are very fortunate to have Katya, accompanied by Ksenia, perform at one of the Washington Public Library's free noon concerts,” the library said in a news release.
