How will your high school experiences help you in coming years?
Throughout my high school career I have been involved in many things while still maintaining good grades. Being in so many activities during high school has shown me how to work hard; how to manage my time wisely; how to work well with others; and how to show leadership. All of these skills will help me tremendously in the near and far future. During my time in high school I also took some rigorous classes that would prepare me for college. I always wanted to challenge myself and find ways to advance my way of thinking.
Fondest memory of high school?
My fondest memory of high school was being able to play the game of basketball all four years with all of my teammates. I fell in love with basketball at a very young age. I had all older siblings who I would go and play basketball with out in our driveway. Being able to play the game I love in high school with my friends and having my family cheer me on in the stands is a memory I will cherish forever.
Which teachers have had the biggest impact on your education and why?
All of the teachers throughout my education have had an impact on me in someway or another. In elementary, I would say my third-grade teacher really helped me realize the importance of an education. She advanced my thinking in all subjects in school including English, math, science, reading, etc. In high school my two math teachers showed me my passion for math and numbers. Lastly, one of my English teachers in high school pushed me to help me see that I loved to write.
Who is your role model and how did they influence you?
My parents are my role models. They have been there for me through everything. In all of my activities they have supported me, every time I looked out in the crowd they were always there. My parents are the most hardworking people I know. My dad works as a shipping and receiving manager from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. My mom is a first-grade teacher and when she gets home she does all the house chores and makes sure there is food on the table. As a family, we have never had a lot of money but with what we had we made some amazing memories.
What is special about your high school?
At my high school we have less than 100 students in the whole high school. This makes the experience at Keota so special. I walk through the halls every day knowing every single person I see by name. In all of my classes I also get a lot of one on one with all of my teachers which helps a lot in bettering my education. Lastly, all of my classmates are really close with each other because of the fact there are only 26 of us. It is like having a second family, going to school at Keota High School.
If you could go back to when you were a freshman, what advice would you give yourself?
If I could go back to my freshman year, I would have told myself to be true to who you are. I was so nervous when I was younger to fit in that I lost myself for a little bit. I am a senior now, and I finally feel like I am paving my own path. I no longer try to hide my outgoing bubbly personality because I’m afraid of what people would think of me. I have gained a lot of confidence, and I am happy. So, I would tell myself as a freshman don’t worry about trying to fit in, try instead to stand out.
