WASHINGTON — An 18-year-old from Keota died in a one-vehicle rollover accident Thursday afternoon between Kalona and Washington, according to police records.
An Iowa State Patrol crash report said Alaina McNurlen was headed northbound on Highway 1 shortly after 4 p.m. on March 27, just north of 170th street, where her vehicle veered into the southbound lane, then overcorrected when swerving out, causing the driver to lose control.
From there, the car “crossed the center line, crossed the southbound lane, and entered into the ditch and rolled,” according to the Iowa State Patrol document, which said the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the wreck.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
McNurlen was a senior at Washington High School. Her obituary was posted by Powell Funeral Home over the weekend.
