WASHINGTON — The Enhance Iowa Board announced nearly $1.8 million in Community Attraction and Tourism grants Jan. 11.
The announcement earmarked $4,000 for the YMCA of Washington County, to help market the Kewash Trail Half Marathon to folks that likely haven’t attended before.
“We will be using the funds to increase our marketing to specific areas outside of Iowa and Illinois to attract new runners to our annual event,” Y of Washington County CEO Amy Schulte said in an email. “We will be focusing on states that have not participated in the past events and some markets in our region that have strong half marathon events as well.”
Part of the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Community Attraction and Tourism grants are meant to support “the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa,” according to a news release from the state.
Other recipients of the latest grants were in Doon, Huxley, Denison and along the Tatanka Ska Trace — another railroad line turned trail — in and around Dickinson County.
