Kewash Trail half marathon, 10K and 5K next Saturday
Aug. 20, 2020 1:00 am
WASHINGTON - The seventh annual Kewash Trail Half Marathon, 10K and 5K will take place on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Washington YMCA Branch Director Teri Hartzler said this year the race will have staggered start times to ensure individuals are kept safe due to COVID-19 concerns.
The half marathon begins at 7 a.m. and the other two races at 8 a.m. The races will start and stop in the 200 block of West Main Street, in front of JP's 207.
This year just under 400 runners have signed up, she said, a little less than normal.
'We were hoping this year to break the 500 mark, but we were thrilled to almost reach 400,” she said.
Of those signed up, about 150 have signed up for the virtual option. Runners have a two-week period to complete the race then turn in their time, and the Y will send them a medal and shirt.
Hartzler said this has become common in races and is especially popular with those who do not want to travel. This year, 13 different states will be represented between the two race options, she said.
Those interested in registering for the event must do so by Aug. 26 and can do so at any of the Y locations or online at: kewashhalfmarathon.wixsite.com/kewashhalfmarathon.
Runners will not be allowed to sign up the day of the event.
Washington Square was crowded with runners on Saturday, April 20, 2019, as 447 people representing 15 states were in town to participate in the annual Kewash half marathon, 10k and 5k. (Union file photo)
