MT. PLEASANT - This Friday, Locomotive #9 will take children of the Mt. Pleasant Community School District to the North Pole and back, in a gesture of goodwill to the community that has so embraced the Midwest Central Railroad.
This is, said Dr. Jennifer Crull, of the Ticket Committee, a philanthropic duty for the community. Not everyone can afford, or has the time to attend the North Pole Express. Therefore, the Railroad hosts the school children out of the kindness of their hearts.
A common thread among volunteers and attendants alike is the passing of the railway to the younger generation. Many were first brought to Old Threshers by their parents. Those parents may have come via their grandparents. It is a testament to the community that these wonders of the Industrial Age are able to be passed down and shared.
The North Pole Express will run for the next two weekends, Saturday and Sunday.
