Kirkwood Community College’s Washington County Regional Center is hosting middle school camps this week, designed for students to explore their choice of career interests.
Named Camp Exploration, four camp experiences are offered in the areas of health and patient care, welding, auto mechanics, and construction.
“It is Kirkwood’s highest priority to support students in every age group,” Washington County Regional Center Director Tera Pickens said. “Camp Exploration is designed around career exploration and providing fun, hands-on activities that promise to develop and build key skills for future success.”
Pickens said the focus on distinct areas of work was the key to in-depth knowledge for the growing students.
“Camp Exploration provides the opportunity for middle school students to look beyond the familiar and really dig into career fields that they may not know about,” she said. “Career exploration is an evolving experience for children, going from elementary-aged self-discovery and world exploration to determining a career or education plan in the latter years of high school.”
