It was when he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after being held prisoner during the Korean War that Ted Sprouse began writing his memoirs. Almost 50 years after the conflict in Korea ended, those memoirs have been published in a book.
The son of Charlie and Ida May Sprouse, he was born and raised in Drakesville. He was one of nine children, and friends and neighbors recall the Sprouse children were "well brought up."
"Limbo on the Yalu ? and beyond!" was published by Southern Heritage Press and was made available for purchase last week. Sprouse, who retired in 1988 and moved to Ottumwa last year, will be in Fairfield with his wife, Colleen, to promote the book. Copies will be available for purchase from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Fairfield Public Library, and Sprouse will be present to sign the books.
