BRIGHTON - Summer is winding down, but the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has not lifted it 'swimming not reccomended” label on Lake Darling.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 12, the E. Coli level was too high for the department to label it safe to swim. E. Coli levels can be influenced by a number of things such as septic systems, manure spills, stormwater runoff, pet and wildlife droppings and rain. The lake has a similar unsafe readin for blue-green algae toxins.
As previously reported, Lake Darling had this same label in June and July.
As of last weekend, 10 state parks have a swimming not recommended, according to data on the DNR website.
