FAIRFIELD — Grow Fairfield Economic Development Association Executive Director Joshua Laraby announced that he is stepping down from his position to take another job.
Laraby announced Tuesday that he has accepted a position as Economic Development Director with the city of Johnston, Iowa.
Laraby will be working with the Grow Fairfield Board of Directors to ensure a smooth transition over the next few weeks. His final day at the helm will be Oct. 5.
"It has been an absolute privilege and my pleasure to serve the Association’s Board of Directors and members along with collaborating closely with our dedicated community partners during the past seven plus years,” Laraby said. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have worked within a community that prioritizes and fosters growth.”
Under Laraby's leadership, Grow Fairfield has spearheaded and actively supported numerous community growth initiatives, resulting in significant investments, job creation, and housing development. These include securing over $15 million in development incentives and culminating in more than $52 million of new business investments and housing development.
During his seven-year tenure with Grow Fairfield, numerous public-private partnerships have resulted in many notable accomplishments including: a nationally recognized child care initiative, development of a 30,000 square foot shell building that subsequently welcomed Sun & Fun Motorsports to the community, and the recent acquisition of a 35-acre site designated for a new housing subdivision.
Additionally, over 220 jobs have been created or retained, more than 180 new housing units have been constructed, and significant assistance has been given to businesses and entrepreneurs.
Laraby strongly attributes these achievements to the unwavering commitment of the community and the strong public-private partnership approach to economic growth implemented by the organization.
Celebrating 45 years, Grow Fairfield Economic Development Association is a nonprofit organization, committed to fostering sustainable economic growth, innovation, and community development in the greater Fairfield and Jefferson County area. Through collaborative partnerships and visionary initiatives, Grow Fairfield strives to create a resilient and forward acting community that attracts investment, cultivates a healthy business climate, and improves the overall quality of life for residents.
Curtis Smith, Grow Fairfield Board President, said, “Grow Fairfield is saddened to hear of Josh’s departure, though we're extremely thankful for the time he has spent leading this organization. His ability to provide visionary leadership and guidance while bringing different parties together has facilitated economic growth and strengthened the City of Fairfield and Jefferson County. The Board's focus now is to locate the next Executive Director who can carry forward the same dedication and leadership exemplified by Josh. We are proud of his accomplishments during his role as Director and wish him continued success into the future.”
Grow Fairfield is guided by a strong community-led Board of Directors actively overseeing a multitude of impactful growth projects currently in progress. Smith said, “the next director will inherit a stable and high-performing organization."
The Board of Directors will immediately begin the search for Laraby’s successor, ensuring a seamless transition and continued growth for Fairfield. In addition, the Board of Directors will function as the primary point of contact for the Association after Oct. 5 and until the next Director is named.
Laraby began his role as Grow Fairfield’s director in October 2016, marking his appointment as the eighth Executive Director in the association’s 45-year history.
