Lincoln Elementary School in Washington will be getting new playground equipment this summer.
Principal Teresa Beenblossom said that the project is the result of a lot of student fundraising and generous donations from the community.
“Our students have been raising money for four years for this playground,” Beenblossom said. “All of our fundraising efforts have been going to this. It’s student driven.”
The project, which will cost just over $208,000, involves removing all of the old playground equipment and installing a rubber base for the new equipment.
“We’re going to move forward with this project this year,” Beenblossom said. “They will start pouring concrete as soon as school is out.”
She noted that some of the students who helped with fundraising early on are now in middle school.
“We’ll bring back the middle school students when it’s done, so they can get a chance to play on the new equipment,” she said.
The project was recently bolstered by a couple of large donations.
Don Pfeiffer donated $50,000 to the effort, and the Brinton Trust donated $10,000.
Several other donors chipped in at the $1,000 level.
“We’re excited and happy with all of the community donations,” Beenblossom said. “We’re still raising funds for the project.”
She said that they are still $80,000 short of their fundraising goal.
