Leaders: Don?t cut smoking prevention funds
DES MOINES (AP) ? The health and human services budget approved by the House April 7 contained no money for smoking prevention programs.
A Senate panel Monday amended the bill to include $5 million for the programs, but Peggy Huppert with the American Cancer Society says at least $5.9 million is needed. Huppert says it makes sense to invest in the programs because a lot of Medicaid money goes to treat illnesses ...

A Senate panel Monday amended the bill to include $5 million for the programs, but Peggy Huppert with the American Cancer Society says at least $5.9 million is needed. Huppert says it makes sense to invest in the programs because a lot of Medicaid money goes to treat illnesses caused by smoking. The full Senate may consider the measure this week.
