Legislative Breakfast series kicks off Saturday morning

The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce will kick off its 2012 Legislative Breakfast series at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Best Western Fairfield Inn.

The chamber is taking reservations from members, members? employees, spouses and guests through Friday for the first of three scheduled breakfasts, ?but the sooner the better so we can get a headcount to Best Western,? said Lori Knox a the chamber.

Reservations can be called to 472-2111 or e-mailed to lknox@fairfieldiowa.com, and the $12 payment can be made at the door.

The Legislative Breakfast series, which the chamber has administered for more than 45 years, connects area voters with the area?s Iowa Senate and House representatives. One breakfast takes place the third Saturday of each month during the Iowa legislative session. Registered attendees are provided breakfast and an opportunity to question and converse with area legislators.

Rep. Curt Hanson (D-Fairfield), Sen. Sandy Greiner (R-Keota) and Rep. Jarad Klein (R-Washington) have been invited to attend the breakfasts.

The legislators will dine, give an update on what has been happening at the capitol and answer constituents? questions during a formal question-and-answer period.

The series includes sponsoring businesses whose sponsorship gives a local high-school student the opportunity to attend and become a part of the political process at an early age.

The Legislative Breakfasts also are set for 7:30 a.m. Feb. 18 and March 17 at the Best Western Fairfield Inn.
