The Washington Chamber of Commerce has announced a Kalona location for this legislative session’s first community forum, where members of the public can meet with State Sen. Dawn Driscoll and State Rep. Heather Hora to discuss their policy activity in Des Moines.
The event will be hosted by KCTC at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce Building at noon Friday, Feb. 10. Washington Chamber Executive Director Michelle Redlinger said her organization was optimistic about the change of locale.
“I’m very excited that this new format is allowing us to bring our area legislators to new communities in Washington County,” she said. “This will be our first event in Kalona, but I’m hoping it's not the last.”
In addition to being the first of the year’s legislative session, Friday’s forum is a pilot for the Chamber’s new, business-hosted format of the events. The Chamber said it was still seeking a Washington County location for the next briefing, in March.
Redlinger said the event, as always, was open to all members of the public, “regardless of whether they live in Washington, Kalona or Iowa City.”
KCTC has offered a free lunch to any attendees who RSVP through the Chamber. A tour of the business will follow the forum.
