Critical Race Theory, the darling red-herring of Republicans and of the dark-comic entertainment labyrinth titling itself, "Fox News," has been cropping up, as if it were everywhere known and understood, as if it were understood or studied by anyone not currently enrolled at Columbia Law School.

But the spate of state laws it has spawned are easily enough understood, not so easily stomached. Laws threatening schoolteachers with criminal penalties should they lapse from orthodox chauvinism when presenting American history, dictating what words they may or may not say, what attitudes and concepts they may discuss, make so close an approach to the quintessential Nazi practice of book burning, that the analogy almost makes itself.

I doubt Iowa will want to hire me, thus I may yet escape the bonfire or the clink.
