Lexington Boulevard & West Fifth Street to close for overlay project
Apr. 19, 2022 9:04 am
Weather permitting, West Fifth Street and Lexington Boulevard will be closed for a concrete overlay project starting at the intersection with North Avenue D to the end of the pavement on Lexington Boulevard beginning Monday, April 25.
This project will resurface the existing pavement with 6 inches of Portland cement concrete and place new granular shoulder material.
In January 2022, the contract for this project was awarded to Jones Contracting Corp. of West Point for $969,707.77.
West Fifth Street and Lexington Boulevard will be closed to thru traffic. Work is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday April 25. Thru traffic will be detoured around the project using West 18th Street and Iowa Highway 1.
Access to local businesses and residences will be allowed as much as possible; however, at times access may be limited or from other ways than normally traveled. Residents are encouraged to use the designated detour route and to use caution while traveling on the detour or in the area of the work zone.
The project roads will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project, which is tentatively scheduled to be completed by late May.
The Washington County Engineer realizes this project will create an inconvenience for local traffic, however, when the project is completed, it will create a significant improvement to these roads.
