More than a month after the November election, Libertyville has finally found a mayor.
Darryl ?Jack? Davison has stepped forward to accept the position and was appointed during a special city council meeting Wednesday.
?He read the article in The Ledger and realized there was still a need,? said city clerk Karen Blakley. She didn?t think residents were all aware the office remained open after the position was turned down first by write-in candidate Ruth Briggs and then by write-in candidate Robert Glass.
?I had a little interest in it before the election, but I?ve only lived here two years,? Davison said, explaining his hesitation to run for office as a ?relative newcomer? to the community.
After reading the position had been declined twice and outgoing Mayor Michelle Stump wanted to dedicate more time to her new job, Davison made a call.
?I don?t see anybody else coming forward, and politics has always been one of my passions,? Davison said. ?I hope I can live up to it.?
Davison moved to Libertyville from Washington, Iowa, where he was sales manager at the radio station, roughly 2.5 years ago. He is semi-retired, working part time at the Department of Human Services in Fairfield.
?My wife and I really like it here,? he said. ?The city council are all really good people. They care about what they?re doing.?
