A large teddy bear native to the Washington Public Library named Stanley has been spotted around town according to a flurry of social media posts. Family Services Librarian Jolisa Weidner said the black bear was following the ideas of this year’s summer reading program.
“The theme is ‘Beyond the Beaten Path,’ so the bear has left the library and he’s making his way around town,” she said. “He originally came to the library several years ago as a mascot, and he eventually decided to wander off and find other places throughout Washington.”
As of Thursday, Stanley the bear has been spotted in several locations. Those who check the library website for the latest sighting can stop by the building’s front desk to report the location and receive a small prize.
Librarians expect the bear’s journey to last through next week.
