Library celebrates Teen Read Week
The Mt. Pleasant Public Library is presenting its first-ever Teen Read Week. Teen Read Week is a week-long celebration that encourage teens to read and to visit their local libraries for programming and teen literature. The Mt. Pleasant Public Library is presenting its first-ever Teen Read Week. Teen Read Week is a week-long celebration that encourage teens to read and to visit their local libraries for programming and teen literature. It was created through the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) in 1998 and libraries all across the world take part in this week.
The library will celebrate this year?s theme, ?It Came From the Library!? during the week of Oct. 15 to 19. The following events are free and open to teens ages 13 and over:
Monday, Oct. 15: Hunger Games Party from 4-6 p.m. in the Civic Center meeting room. Bring your own T-shirt from home and make a Hunger Games t-shirt. There will also be trivia, games, Hunger Games related snacks and door prizes.
Tuesday, Oct. 16: Terry Fisk, Ghost Hunter, 6:30 p.m., Civic Center meeting room. Fisk will talk about his real-life experiences with the paranormal. Registration is recommended.
Wednesday, Oct. 17: Teen Tie-Dye, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., children?s programming room. Bring your own t-shirt, jeans, jacket or anything that you would like to tie-dye.
Thursday, Oct. 18: Teen movie night ?Coraline?/pumpkin decorating contest, 4 p.m., Civic Center meeting room. Watch the movie, ?Coraline,? rated PG, based off the popular book by Neil Gaiman. While watching the movie, decorate pumpkins in the library?s pumpkin decorating contest.Prizes will be awarded to the winner.
Friday, Oct. 19: Teen Manga Club Movie Screening: ?The Secret World of Arrietty,? rated G, at 4 p.m., large group study room. Join the Teen Manga Club and watch ?The Secret World of Arrietty.? Snacks will be provided.
