The Washington Public Library will present 'Fiber Arts February' all monthlong with a fabric scrap painting workshop every Friday.
Librarian LeAnn Kunz has been running the Fiber Arts February for 11 years.
Normally, there are a variety of workshops, presentations and exhibits that are free and open to the public, usually in person, but this year they are hosting everything via Zoom because of the pandemic.
Participants will upcycle fabric scraps to create their own unique fiber 'paintings,' an accessible craft for all ages. Participants will need their own supplies but sewing is not required.
Workshops will be held over Zoom on the following times and dates:
• Feb. 5, noon (intro and work session).
• Feb. 12, 7 p.m. (intro and work session).
• Feb. 19, noon (work and share session).
• Feb. 26, 7 p.m. (work and share session).
Suggested materials:
• A picture, coloring page or drawing to get ideas.
• Fabric scraps from old projects, and at least one piece to use for your background.
• Old tablecloths, place mats, clothes, etc.
• Ribbons and yarns.
• Buttons and beads.
Equipment:
• Hand sewing needles.
• Embroidery thread or yarn.
• Regular thread.
• Fabric scissors.
• Paper scissors.
• Sewing machine (optional).
''This annual celebration is possible with the help of those in the community who have a love and appreciation for fiber and textiles and are willing to share their talents and pieces,' Kunz said.
