Library wants to connect readers with letters on books

WASHINGTON - The Washington Public Library has created a book club of letters.

In this book club, residents can read four different books and write a letter about each when they finish.

'The purpose of this book club of letters is to connect us in the old-fashioned way, by writing letters,” according to a news release.

Adult services librarian Tammy Valentine wants people to share thoughts with each other in a way that allows them to be honest.

The books available to read are:

' 'No ­Time ­Like the ­Fu­ture: An Op­ti­mist ­Con­sid­er­s ­Mor­tal­i­ty,” by Michael J. Fox (memoir).

' 'Fear is Fuel,” by Patrick J. Sweeney (non-fiction/self-improvement).

' 'The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane,” by Lisa Lee (fiction).

' 'Li­brar­i­an ­Tales: ­Fun­ny, S­trange, and In­spir­ing Dis­patch­es From the Stacks,” by William Ottens (non-fiction).

The book club members are asked to read the discussion questions, read the book, write a letter, and return all of the letters with the book.

The readers may sign their name or not, Valentine will keep all letters written with the books, so each patron can read what the previous patrons wrote.
