Washington?s square was alive with excitement Friday night for the town?s Lighted Holiday Parade. The parade began at the high school and advanced west on Washington Street to the square, where the parade entries turned north onto Iowa Avenue. The square was brightly illuminated by lights hung around all of the businesses on the square.
Lyle Moen of the Washington Lions Club was there passing out free popcorn before the parade started. The club set up a tent to shield the parade-goers from the night?s nasty wind.
?We had two popcorn machines going and we were serving it as fast as we could pop it,? said Moen.
Moen said the group finally stopped serving at 6:30 p.m., when the parade began.
?It was a fun time,? said Moen. ?A lot of people took advantage of the free food. I thought it was an excellent turnout, even though it was pretty cold. A lot of people came down to watch the parade.?
Moen said the Lions Club plans to do this very thing at the next holiday parade. He said it is a good way to demonstrate the group?s activity in the community.
