Fire crews were dispatched to structure fire in rural Washington Saturday morning. A news release from the volunteer department said it was caused by a lightning strike.
“Upon arrival on scene, there was heavy smoke from the second floor of the structure,” the release said. “During this time of the morning, there were thunderstorms in the area and lightning struck a metal antenna on the roof which lit the attic on fire. The fire then spread to the 2nd floor of the structure. The house sustained significant damage.”
Firefighters extinguished the fire at 2345 295th St. with no injuries reported according to the release, which said fire departments from Wayland and Brighton also responded to the call, alongside Alliant Energy and various Washington County emergency responders.
