Linda D. Brown has thrown her hat into the race to become the next District 5 supervisor in Washington County. Brown is the only Democrat in the field who is attempting to unseat incumbent Republican Jim Rosien. The other candidate in the race is Republican Ron Bennett.
Brown is a native of Fairfield. She has spent time living in Iowa City, and moved to Washington several years ago. Brown is glad that she has chosen Washington as her home.
?I sought an exceptional community in which to live and participate,? she said. ?Residents place importance on their community and they respect each other. Washington County is progressive while still valuing Iowa traditions. It is a community that I want to serve.?
Brown retired in November from government service at the State Historical Society of Iowa in Iowa City. She now works as an artist and photographer. Her art has been exhibited at the international level, including at a permanent exhibition in Berlin, Germany. She explained that she is passionate about helping others in her community.
?I like spending time volunteering for community betterment, and participating in groups working for the advancement of women,? said Brown.
Prior to her time at the State Historical Society, Brown worked for 23 years as a librarian. She offered research, information and other services to the public. She obtained master?s degrees in Library and Information Science, Management of Non-Profits and Archival Information. Brown said she has experience working with budgets. She said her time as a public servant and her educational background make her a quality candidate.
The biggest issue before the supervisors is the lack of money coming from Des Moines, said Brown.
