FAIRFIELD – LISCO held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 15 to celebrate its move into the former MidWestOne Bank building on the south side of the Fairfield square.
The telecommunications company moved its offices from its former location a couple of miles north of Fairfield on Highway 1 in the Fairfield Business Park, where they had been for about a decade. Aron Yedersberger, the son of Bernie and Lance Yedersberger, has been the company’s president for a little over a year, and one of the changes he wanted to make was to bring the employees closer together.
“Due to the nature of our business, we have to have multiple locations,” Yedersberger said, referring to the fact that LISCO has a warehouse on West Grimes Avenue and another office for its data center near the post office. “When I took over as president, I wanted to bring us together to increase productivity and build our relationships internally. It was important to me to have a presence on the square. It just feels more cozy and homey.”
Yedersberger said there was a time when LISCO looked into purchasing the former Iowa State Bank building on North Court Street, which now houses the Fairfield Co-Lab. However, he said that, though it was a nice building, it wasn’t quite the right fit.
After MidWestOne Bank moved into its new home across the street in the former First National Bank, representatives of MidWestOne Bank approached LISCO to ask if the company was interested in buying their former home.
“We took a look and it was perfect,” Yedersberger said about the building. “They had done a lot of work on the building, so it was in great condition.”
LISCO has about 40 employees, and half of them are working in the new office on the square, which contains the company’s administrative offices. Customers can drop off payments there, or inquire about services. Yedersberger said the new location will allow the business to better serve its clients, and it’s more convenient for the employees, too.
“If the employees want to eat lunch or get a coffee, they can just walk now,” Yedersberger said. “All of our employees have been happy to move their offices into the new building.”
Yedersberger’s father Lance founded LISCO in 1994 and ran the business for nearly 30 years until passing the torch to Aron.
“I’ve been working intimately with the business since I was 14 when my dad started it,” Aron said. “I’ve done every single job in the company at one point or another. My dad wanted to spend more time enjoying life, so he decided that I should take over, but he’s still a major part of the organization.”
