Local nonprofits establish endowment funds
Mar. 31, 2022 9:32 am
Three Washington County nonprofit groups — HACAP, Washington County Hospital Foundation and the Washington County Fair Association — have recently established permanent endowment funds with the Community Foundation of Washington County.
“These funds will continue to grow and will provide a steady source of income for these organizations far into the future,” said Community Foundation of Washington County Executive Director Millie Youngquist. “Also, anyone may make a tax-exempt donation to these funds and be eligible to receive an Endow Iowa tax credit for their donation.”
HACAP, or the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program was established in Linn County in 1965 and has since expanded into a nine-county area in Eastern Iowa, coming into Washington County in 1981. They provide a variety of anti-poverty programs and collaborate with community partners to serve individuals and families.
Washington County Hospitals and Clinics has been providing health care services to Washington County and surrounding community residents for over 100 years. Founded in 1910, the Washington County Hospital became the first rural county public hospital in Iowa and the United States. The Hospital Foundation was formed in 1995 as the fundraising entity of the WCHC.
Washington County Fair Association partners with the Washington County Extension Service to plan and run the annual Washington County Fair each year. The talents of Washington County youth and adults are showcased at this annual event and it’s a highlight of the summer for many.
Individuals interested in making donations to any or all of these funds can visit the CFWC’s website: cfwashingtoncounty.org, click on “Local Partners” and scroll down.
The CFWC was formed in 2006 and seeks to strengthen the communities of Washington County by promoting philanthropy, supporting nonprofits and helping donors fulfill their charitable goals. The foundation is overseen by a volunteer board of local citizens and permanently endows most of its assets, insuring that gifts given will last forever.
