WASHINGTON COUNTY, Iowa — Local students Sophie Bell and Kinsey Duwa were each awarded a $1,500 Ag Leadership scholarship sponsored by the Bayer Fund.
In the fall, Bell will study Agronomy & Crop science at Iowa State University and Duwa will study Economics and Finance at University of Alabama.
Bayer Fund said Bell and Duwa exemplified the quality of students who are selected for the scholarships.
“Bayer Fund is proud to sponsor the America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders program, helping hundreds of students to pursue higher education studies in the field of agriculture,” Bayer Fund Representative Amy Simpson said. “By supporting these students today, we are supporting the future leaders of our industry.”
Grow Ag Leaders scholarships is administered by the National FFA, but applicants need not be FFA members. The program’s scholarships are available to high school seniors and college students pursuing degrees in ag-related fields. To be considered, Bell and Duwa each had to receive endorsements from two farmers in the community.
