Locals demonstrate creative sustainability at Fairfield Eco-Fashion Show

The Southeast Iowa Sierra Club hosted a Circular Economy Eco-Fashion Show as part of its Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 20, at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

Dubbed the “Resilient Community Challenge,” the event featured guest speakers, a repair fair, a hackathon and a fashion show where contestants were tasked with making outfits from recycling materials ranging from bottle caps to buttons to plastic bags.

Contestants were judged based on the originality of their design, the percent of material that was repurposed, and its functionality.

Participants in this year’s show were Evie Messer, Miles Siemsen (modeling a coat made by Jayce Wallace), Uma Wegman, Sarah Kazakis, Sarah Larson, Kamilla Mustafaa and Mai Doan.
