• Virgil Simmons leases the Mobil station. He succeeds Ernest Dunlavy.
• Fred Ekstrand has been named athletic director and dean of boys at Boone High Schol and Junior College.
• Henry County Fair will be August 2 through August 7.
• This week at the Alamo: “Scudda-Hoo! Scudda-Hay! starring June Haver and “The Return of Rin Tin Tin” and co-feature “Under the Tonto Rim” starring Tim Holt.
1973
• Mr. and Mrs. George Garvey announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Ann, to Michael Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Henderson.
• New London State Bank offers 6 ½ % on a 2 ½ year CD and 5 ½ % in a 6 month CD.
• Seventeen members of the Class of 1931 attended their class reunion. Those still residing in New London were Clyde Kuhlenbeck, Clarence Totemeier, snd Ralph Despain.
• Gladys Oberman has sold the Variety Store to Helen Garrels.
