•Irving Synnes, Chamber of Commerce President, announced the day, time, and place for the August meeting.They will plan for an autumn festival.
•Clifford McKinnon was picked up by a highway patrolman and brought to Justice of the Peace Walter where he was fined $8 for pulling a trailer without a guide chain.
•Mr. and Mrs. Orville Kilbourn have returned from a business trip to Chicago.
•This week at the Alamo: “Captain from Castle” starring Tyrone Power and “If Winter Comes” starring Walter Pidgeon and Deborah Kerr.

•Airman 1st Class Cecil L. Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Coleman, has arrived for duty at Clark AB, Philippines.
•Shari Mallams will attend a twirling clinic in Ottumwa.
•Kyle DeVore and Jim Johnson were named to the Dean’s List at Muscatine Community College for the spring semester.
•The Council rejects Sunday beer sales.

•Chapter EV, P.E.O., will meet at the home of Georgiana Young. Betty Grove will be co-hostess.
•Obituaries this week: Irene Grinstead, Max S. Bush, Sr., and Catherine Deck.
•All-Conference-Baseball- First Team: Mike Springsteen (pitcher), Jason Boyd (shortstop), Jason Hack (outfield), and Joey Malott (pitcher). First baseman Drew Harris - Honorable Mention.
•All-Conference-Softball-First Team: Corina Schropp (pitcher), Stephanie Van Syoc (2nd base), Jami Rummelhart (3rd base), and Rachel Miller and Jami Strawhacker (outfielders). 2nd Team: April Schropp (catcher), Robin Lamm (short stop), Brittony Williamson (outfielder), and Susan Wick (utility). Lindsay Worden (pitcher) - Honorable Mention.
•Football practice starts August 17.

•Hometown Pride Winner this week is Bob and Gina Anderson’s home at 400 S Walnut.
•P.E.O. Chapter EV will meet on August 8. Hostesses are Barb Byrd and Kathryn Coberley. Sue Aanes will have the program.
•Three file to seek a school board seat. They are Lindsay Porter, Shane Mettler, and Mike McBeth.
•Diana Weigert will be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
