•At their last meeting, the school board is two bus drivers short with the start of school fast approaching.
•The four month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Johnson died August 9 at the University Hospital. She was named Patricia Louise. The funeral was held at Elliott Chapel.
•Thiw week at the Alamo: “Gone With the Wind” starring Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh and “Desire Me” starring Greer Garson and Robert Mitchum.
•John and Frank Lundin are selling school shoes. Stop in and get fitted!

•The Chamber buys Crystee Wright’s Grand Champion calf.
•Obituaries this week: Fred Riepe, Virgil Church, and Robert Stansbeary.
•Robbie Sue Wear and Larry Van Syoc were united in marriage in July.
•Cathy Lovelock and Sam Wellington are engaged and planning a September wedding.
•New London teachers Sherry Kaestner and Linda Moehle completed a UNI course concerning student teacher success.
1998
•Wayne and Darlene Henessee and family spent a few days vacationing in the Wisconsin Dells.

•Council welcomes back Mike Westerbeck who has been on sick leave since May.
•Senior Citizens will meet for a covered dish dinner. Kitchen committee is Margaret Weigert, Arbutus Goody, and Malissa Gordy. Wanda Mundinger will bring rolls.

•Three Council seats of Mark Hempen, Alicia Hudnall, and Dan Berner will be up for election this fall.
•The Hometown Pride Award goes to Chuck and Sara Noel’s Thompson Street duplex.
