1948
•Merle Jennings’ 1946 maroon Ford coach was stolen from his home on Maole Street. While police have found no trace of the car, they believe two escaped convicts may be the culprits.
•The New London flower show was held August 14 at the New London Hall. Over 250 attended.
•The body of Staff Sergeant William Burdell Gilleard is being returned from Manilla aboard a US Army Transport. His sister requested that his body be returned home. He is remembered as one of the greatest athletes to ever come out of New London.
•This week at the Alamo: “If You Know Susie” starring Eddie Cantor and Joan Davis and “Tenth Avenue Angel” starring Margaret O’Brien .
1973
•Mr. and Mrs. Jack James announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Rebecca Kay to Ronald J. Hahn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hahn.
•Joe Prottsman, a senior at New London HS, has been selected for Who’s Who Among HS Students.
•Leagues are forming at London Lanes. Contact Maynard Miller.
•Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hines, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Kilbourn, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Shipley had a lovely dinner at the Suburban Club. They were celebrating the Hines’ wedding anniversary and Mrs. Kilbourn’s birthday.
1998
•Coach Chris Kolker has instructed the VB girls to report to practice on August 17 for two-a-days.
•Any former NL cheerleader who has any equipment, please turn it in.
•Lowell Rattlers win state softball tourney. Team members are Duane Blint, Devin Blint, Troy Mears, Bob Lemley, Marty Schnicker, John Alden, Scott Brinks, Joel Prottsman, Brad Selby, Russ Hutchinson, Jon Smith, and Gary Thompson.
2013
•Coach Chiri, Coach Helmerson, and Coach McSorley are instructing the approximately 100 attendees at football camp.
•Four new teachers at NLCSD this year: Alison Leytem (English), Joe Garvey (Industrial Arts), Cory Bryne (Vocal Music), and Mariah Huntington (Special Education).
•Josh Bradley was seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident on August 14. He was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.
•The Hometown Pride Award went to Lois Caldwell for her East Main Street home.
