Lots of activity arrives with summer at UP Home
UP HOME NEWS
Jun. 24, 2021 5:00 am
Summer has brought a lot of activity to our campus. We would like to acknowledge a couple of special wedding anniversaries that have been celebrated recently, Phyllis and Marvin Crile celebrating 67 years and Brad and Pat Goff celebrating 57 years. Congratulations to these couples!
Our Copper Mule visited the UP Home Campus setting up on a lovely June day in the Pavilion. Laura Bombei, Kathleen Brinning and Heather Greiner set up “The Pot Your Own Plant Bar” where residents were provided a great variety of plants, containers and toppings. Selections included but were not limited to succulents in as small as 2 inches and plants growing in pots up to 6 inches like sansevieria (snake plant), pathos, peperomia (watermelon plant) and ponytail palm.
The ladies of the Copper Mule provided care information for the plants such as watering guidelines, the amount of sun versus shade that is required for the plant and if it was easy to care for or easy look and expert green thumb. They also guided residents to suitable pots that came in different sizes, shapes, colors, textures and options for drainage.
Laura, Kathleen and Heather also spent time potting the plants in the resident’s chosen containers adding toppings such as white, earth tone or black rocks. Some of the residents were excited to care for their new plants and others were excited to give away their plants as gifts.
It was an enjoyable afternoon in the shade of the pavilion, and there was talk of checking in with each other in a month to see how the plants were fairing.
Thank you to the ladies of “Our Copper Mule” for a great experience. Residents in attendance included, Dorothy Koehler, Dorothy White, Joyce Letts, Kathy Knutson, Mary Sue Northup, Cathy Kleese, Jan McDaniel, Bonnie Bender, Duane Lynch, Marilyn Lynch, Mary Temple, Pat Goff and Betty Thompson.
A Father’s Day Meal was provided, Sunday June 20, in the Michael Moore Dining Room, with great attendance. On Monday, the men gathered in the Main Dining Room for fellowship and ice cream to honor those that are fathers and the fathers they had. They were served their choice of chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or peach ice cream with a variety of toppings.
The new Washington High School head football coach, Nick Ehret, spoke to the group regarding the things he treasures most about his father, being a father to a 1-year-old as well as being an influence to young men that he coaches.
He then told the group about his expectations for the upcoming football season at Washington along with what the coaches and kids are doing now to prepare for the season. After a question-and-answer session coach Ehret told the men in attendance he’d love to come back to update them on the season after they have a few games under their belt and maybe get them another treat of ice cream.
A Thank You goes out to a generous donation from Joyce Wilson on a new top to replace the roof on the pergola in the Memory Garden. Also, thank you to Jana Neiman, for her help in cleaning up the garden area and Gene Driscoll and Larry Bartlett for their expertise with the pergola roof.
Brownlee residents would like to thank the Lutheran Church Group for making sensory, and search and find tubes for everyone to have for their tables and in their rooms. These included beads, shells, orbits, glitter and much more.
The ladies got their nails done and hand massages for all who wanted. Jean Cousins brought in ice cream sandwiches for everyone to enjoy for Max’s birthday. Sunday, a Father’s Day party get together was enjoyed with watermelon, cheese, crackers and summer sausage, with a side of lemonade or ice tea.
We are looking forward to what the rest of the summer has in store for us.
