M.U.M.?s Golden Dome Market expanding

Additions on the north and south ends of the Golden Dome Market on the Maharishi University of Management campus are expected to be done by next spring, expanding both retail and dining space, as well as including a kitchen.

The impetus for the expansion is customer demand, said Harry Bright, M.U.M.?s director of business enterprises.

?We just had a need to expand,? he said. ?We?d outgrown our space. Customers keep asking for more and more products. Now we?ll have room for them.?

The new construction will add 1,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor. The second story of the north addition will add 500 square feet of dining space, and the second floor of the south wing will be a kitchen that will service the Golden Dome Market Café.

The new retail space will allow for a water machine and self-serve bulk food, as well as increase the space for produce and fresh fruit.

The additions will extend east of the current front of the building, forming a horseshoe shape and creating a somewhat sheltered area for outside dining during the summer.

Currently the food for the café is being prepared in the café in the Argiro Student Center and transported to the market café.

The new dining area also will be available as a banquet room.

The additions are being made possible by the generosity of long-time friends of the university.

Golden Dome Market opened in February 2005.
