Maasdam Barns in Fairfield invites the public to visit some “gentle giants” when it hosts Horses at the Barns from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Maasdam Barns are located south of the Jefferson County Health Center on Highway 1.
“Whether in the paddock or the barn, these sweet animals will be on hand to admire, and maybe even pet,” Maasdam Barns stated in a news release.
The Maasdam Barns committee announced that it will hold Horses at the Barns the second Saturday of every month this fall. The next opportunities to visit the horses will be Sept. 11 and Oct. 9.
The committee announced it is looking for volunteers, so those interested in being a tour guide, painter, event planner or board member are encouraged to reach out through the group’s Facebook page or by visiting its website at jeffersoncounty.iowa.gov.

The public will have more chances to see horses at Maasdam Barns through the fall series “Horses at the Barns” Aug. 14, Sept. 11 and Oct. 9. (Andy Hallman/The Union)
