How will your high school experiences help you in the coming years?
I think one of the best things I've learned at New London is to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. Most of my favorite memories in high school happened because I was forced to try something I wasn’t used to. I think that’s something that every high schooler should learn: to push yourself into unknown territory.
Fondest memory of high school?
Too many to count. I’ve been blessed with so many friendships over the last four years. If I had to choose, I’d probably go with this last homecoming. The whole senior class just hung out for that week and drove around. I think that we all had a really good time.
Which teachers have had the biggest impact on your education and why?
It’s almost impossible to pick. Ms. Schroeder has taught me to look at a subject from every possible angle. Mrs. Lair taught me the value of writing and helped spark my love for analyzing film. Mr. Bence made history entertaining and genuinely cares about every student. Mrs. Campbell helped build my leadership skills and was always willing to listen to my crazy ideas. I shouldn’t have started listing, because I feel awful leaving so many people out. The staff is full of kind, wonderful adults.
Who is your role model and how did they influence you?
My role models are most definitely my parents; they are solely responsible for my success throughout life. Without their guidance, wisdom, and love, I would have been a complete screw-up. Both of my parents are kind, caring people. They’re always there when I need them, but are also constantly pushing me to be a better person. To put simply: they’re the absolute best.
What is special about your high school?
The special thing about New London is the fact that even though there are so many different groups and characters, we have the ability to come together. Being in a small school gives a great sense of community; some of my favorite high school moments happened during homecoming, where everyone could get along for a bit and just hangout. It’s a tiny thing, but I think it’s something that made my high school experience a lot better.
If you could go back to when you were a freshman, what advice would you give yourself?
Where do I begin. First off, grow your hair out, it looks stupid when it’s really short. Second, save a bit more money, I’ve got nothing to work with here. Third, and most important, enjoy everything. Things are going to fly by and there’s no going back. Enjoy every second.
