FAIRFIELD – Maharishi School is offering a series of six webinars for parents this school year from experts in education and child development, and they’re all free and open to the public.
The first one in the series will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 and titled “Setting Kids Up for Success” by Dr. Lisa Damour. According to a news release from the school, Damour will address how to help children and teenagers “manage uncomfortable emotions, adapt to new challenges, and cope with stress effectively.” After the live webinar, Head of School Brett Potash will lead a question and answer session diving deeper into the topic.
Maharishi School will provide light refreshments and childcare during the event. Those who need childcare should RSVP by contacting Danielle Wallace at dwallace@maharishischool.org.
Potash said that the purpose of this webinar series is to get parents more involved in their child’s education. The series has been organized by the Independent School Association of the Central States, of which Maharishi School is a member. But Potash wants the public to know that the series is intended for parents of children in any school, whether private, public or homeschooled. Fairfield Schools Superintendent Zach Wigle has promoted the event as well.
“We want to work with the community and share some of the resources we have to create a stronger Fairfield,” Potash said.
The webinar series includes some of the most well-respected voices in child psychology and education, such as Jonathan Haidt (Oct. 28), Tina Payne Brison (Jan. 13), David Yeager (Feb. 10), Laurie Santos (April 15) and Shefali Tsabary (May 6).
