FAIRFIELD – Tuesday was the first day of school for students at Maharishi School in Fairfield.
The school has a mandatory mask policy and takes the temperature of everyone entering the building to ensure they don't have a fever. Maharishi School Academic Director Kaye Jacob said kids were glad to be back in school, and most seemed OK with the masks.
'Though some find it challenging, especially if they have respiratory challenges, but we can work with them on that,” Jacob said.
Jacob said the bigger challenges had to do with computer hiccups such as Zoom malfunctioning or students checking into the wrong Zoom classroom. She said the second day of school, Wednesday, went more smoothly. She got feedback from one parent who said her daughter loved her first day of first grade.
'Students and parents are very patient with the glitches, and teachers are so resourceful and dedicated,” Jacob said.
Jacob said the middle school staff held a meeting lasting two hours that just covered troubleshooting problems from the first couple of days. They discussed making adjustments to accommodate the two groups of kids being served, those who are attending in-person and those attending online. They discussed needing to spend time outside, how they could avoid having too many kids go to their locker at once, and how to best stagger lunch times. She said she is very proud of the hard work the teachers have put in.
