Jessica Main has been hired to fill the open youth services librarian position at the Fairfield Public Library.
Main, a native of Eldridge with a master?s degree in library sciences from University of Iowa, starts Monday.
?She is a warm and enthusiastic librarian who really cares about youth,? said library director Rebecca Huggins. ?That was obvious through her references.?
Huggins said 36 individuals, 12 of whom were librarians with MLS degrees, applied for the job. The library board felt Main, with her focus on youth services and very successful practicum at the Davenport library, was an excellent candidate.
Main will spend August familiarizing herself with the community and library, including the children?s collection and front desk routine, as well as planning her fall programs.
The youth services position has been open all summer, though the library hired Jean Dorothy to organize and manage the summer reading program.
?She did a wonderful job,? Huggins said, highlighting strong participation and creative programs.
Dorothy?s last day with the library was Wednesday.
