The Mt. Pleasant Main Street Art Center will be holding its monthly reception on April 7, called “Three Strong Women Making Their Mark.”
This months featured artists will be Suzi Morrison, Dawn Wiley and Lorrilee Miller.
Miller who is the centers Executive Director, said the event is not only about showing their different unique styles of art, but also shedding light on women’s art history. The event goes hand in hand with the centers brunch talk on April 10, which keens in on the topic of women in art.
“We’re going to be talking about women in art history during the month,” Miller said. “We’re pairing it all together. We will talk about how in the past female artist were kind of ignored in the history books. We have an art history book in the front and there are no women in it. They were completely ignored and we are going to talk about that. Then we’re going to talk about how, in the last few decades they’re being shown more.”
The Thursday reception also will feature live music by Trey Hegar.
The brunch talk will begin on Sunday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m. The event costs $15, but members get a 10% discount. A light brunch will be provided.
