Friday night, Mt. Pleasant shops took part in the wine walk, 'Wine About Winter.” The event allowed the public to partake in free wine tastings while exploring all the goods and services Mt. Pleasant businesses have to offer.
Many businesses were happy to see people out and about for the event, and not just because that meant foot traffic in their stores.
'We weren't really sure if we'd have an event with the COVID numbers and the weather we've been having lately,” Barb from Lillian Grace Boutique said. 'But it's still light out, the temperatures are warming up, and we've had a good turn out.”
Lisa Oetken, the executive director of Main Street Mount Pleasant which sponsored the event, expressed her happiness with the turnout.
'I think it went pretty well,” she said. 'We met our expected numbers, which was about 50-plus, and pushing the wine walk a week back definitely paid off.”
'I haven't talked to the businesses yet, but I did see people shopping and walking around with bags in their hands, so yea, I think it was a success.”
'It's nice to be back out,” Dave Rogers, a winemaker at Airport Road Vineyard said. 'It's good to be out and having these wine tastings in a public setting, and people seem to be responding well to it.”
As for future events, Main Street Mount Pleasant has a full schedule planned for 2021.
'We are going full steam ahead,” Oetken said. 'We have about 27 to 29 different events scheduled, from a Saving of Green Beer Walk on March 26 to Sip and Shop starting in April music in the park again.”
'There's a lot we want to do, including new events, and we're lucky enough that our Main Street and central park are big enough to allow these events to happen with social distancing.”
