It was supposed to be the lull before the storm Monday for the county auditor?s office.
Henry County Shelly Barber, however, said Monday was anything but a lull as 285 voted at her office during the last day of early voting.
With Monday?s barrage of voters, the county set a record for early voters at 4,611 Barber said during Tuesday?s board of supervisors meeting. That total surpassed the previous record of 4,256 in 2012. There are 12,823 registered voters in the county. Of those 12,823 voters, 8,362 cast ballots, meaning early voting represented 55 percent of Tuesday?s turnout. Overall, the county turnout was at 65 percent.
Barber said 182 absentee ballots are yet to be returned. Ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 7 to figure in the tally.
