Make room for Jesus during this busy time of the year
Parson to Person
Pastor Dave Watson, Washington First Assembly of God
Dec. 9, 2021 9:04 am
It is hard to believe that December is already here. In just a few weeks, we will mark the end of 2021 and usher in 2022.
This time is noted as one of the busiest times of the year. Obligations, parties, school events, shopping, and numerous other things compete for our time and our resources.
With all these things crowding our schedules and filling our calendars, we can forget the true reason for this season. The reason for Christmas is Jesus Christ.
In Luke chapter 2, we read the story of Jesus’ birth.
Mary and Joseph go to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus is imminent. They ask for a room, and no one gives them one. There was no room for them.
Had they known the importance of the child Mary was about to give birth to, they might have responded differently, but the people were too busy in their own schedules.
As I read that passage, I could not help but think about today in December 2021. Everyone is so busy trying to find that “new normal” that they have forgotten the constant that has gotten them through all the past turmoil and instability. Jesus Christ is the only way we have made it this far.
So, what’s the point, pastor? My point is this. We must MAKE ROOM in our lives for Jesus.
Many people expect the Lord to come in like a wrecking ball and bash his way into our lives. That is not the way the Lord works.
He stands at the door of our heart and knocks and waits for us to invite him in. There are lots of things that fill our hearts, but we must make the choice to let Jesus in and make room for him.
The shepherds in the fields that were talked to by the angels of heaven were, more than likely, shepherds that took care of the flock for the sacrifices that were made for the people regularly.
The High Priest and the Levites should have seen the star and been looking with expectation. The people had heard that the Messiah was coming and yet they had grown complacent.
This same thing is happening even today. We all have ways of justifying activity or inactivity, but that still does not change the fact that we must consciously choose to make Christ part of our lives.
Christmas is once a year, but Jesus Christ is with us always.
Are you making room for him? He will never push his way into your life. He stands at the door to your heart and asks you to open up and let him in.
Make room for him this year. Refocus on what is truly important.
