When a Mt. Pleasant police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for an obstructed license plate and window tint, the driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed.
The officer attempted the stop Thursday morning just before 1 a.m. in the 200 block of East Monroe Street.
The vehicle drove through stop signs at Harrison and Walnut streets before losing control and striking a pole.
Police said the driver got out and ran. Brian Felgenhauer was stopped and arrested in the 100 block of North Cherry Street, according to police reports.
An investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen out of Dubuque County, and Felgenhauer had no Iowa driver's license.
Felgenhauer was taken to Henry County Health Center for evaluation, according to the report. After release, he was booked in to the Henry County Jail and charged with several traffic citations, eluding, theft in the first degree, interference of official acts, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.
